2020Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
2020Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2020 Matthews Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was crafted from several vineyards across five separate AVAs: Horse Heaven Hills, Red Mountain, Royal Slope, Columbia Valley, and White Bluffs. Farmed using sustainable practices, the vines were limited to one or two clusters per shoot for maximum concentration. They were hand-harvested in the early mornings between September and October 2020. Upon arriving in the winery, each cluster was cluster-sorted, berry-sorted, and then fermented in both stainless steel (68%) and French oak (32%). The free-run wine was then cellared for 22 months in new French oak barrels (100%). Only 28 of our highest-graded barrels were selected and bottled in July 2022, producing only 697 cases.
The 2020 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is vibrant purple in the glass with a ruby-colored rim. Aromas of black currant, mocha, dried raspberries and huckleberry pie lead to flavors of candied strawberry, blueberry slump, orange peel and cedar. The mouthfeel is full-bodied with supple tannins, lively acidity and graceful balance. The long, silky and lush finish shows the wine’s power with dark fruits, minerals and a touch of well-integrated oak.

Awards & Accolades
"The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve showed beautifully, with lots of up-front charm and character. Ripe black cherry, graphite, tobacco, and dried herbs give way to a medium to full-bodied, nicely textured, balanced wine with supple tannins and outstanding length. It's drinking nicely today yet should easily evolve for 15-20 years in cold cellars."

"Flavorful and spicy with aromas of blueberries, dark plums, chocolate, cinnamon, cloves and lavender. It’s full-bodied, polished and spicy with a wealth of ripe dark fruit. Firm, muscular tannin frame. Big and structured. 90% cabernet sauvignon, 7% petit verdot and 3% cabernet franc. Drink from 2025."
