2016Sauvignon Blanc

Sold Out

The 2016 Matthews Sauvignon Blanc was crafted using Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon from select vineyards in Washington State, located in the Royal Slope of the Columbia Valley and the southern slopes of the Rattlesnake Mountains of Yakima Valley. Farmed using sustainable practices, the fruit was then hand-harvested early mornings late in the summer into early fall. Upon arriving in the winery, the fruit was then hand-harvested. Fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks (64%), French oak barrels (20%), and concrete eggs (16%), it was bottled and released with only 667 cases produced.

Tasting Notes

Explosive nose of green guava, citrus rind, passion fruit and slate. Swirling adds sweetness to the fruit while adding white peach and apricot preserves. The palate is vibrant and mouthwatering with great polish and minerality. A perfect balance of ripe fruit and acid to keep this impeccably drinkable.

Food Pairing Recommendations

Artichoke dip, grilled asparagus, fresh tomatoes, spicy tapas, raw oysters, black cod. The Sauvignon Blanc is summer in a glass, and it loves summer foods. It’s ideal before dinner with some artichoke dip, creamy cheese or grilled asparagus. It’s a great friend of fresh tomatoes, but substantial enough to pair with chicken or spicy tapas. It brings out the very best in raw oysters, and it’s the perfect sip between bites of scallop or black cod, but it’s equally at home around a communal bowl of steamed clams. Whether you want to really focus on your meal, or just have a tasty glass of something while watching the sun go down, this is a reliably rewarding summer wine to reach for.

Awards & Accolades

"The 2016 Sauvignon Blanc is a very clean, classic, straight Sauvignon Blanc (there's 11% Semillon in the blend as well). Crisp citrus, leafy herbs and hints of apple peal all flow to a medium-bodied, straightforward, balanced and refreshing white that's ideal for drinking over the coming year or so."

90 points, Jeb Dunnuck, The Wine Advocate

"There's a wealth of ripe tropical fruit on offer here. Very juicy and expressive lime and passion fruit. Zesty. Drink now."

90 points, James Suckling, jamessuckling.com
