The outstanding 2022 Matthews ‘Red Mountain’ Cabernet Sauvignon offers Turkish coffee and tar notes on the nose alongside creme de violette. The palate is deep and rich with terrific flavor density and marvelous weight and depth. This is a steal at this price point.

An utterly seductive bouquet of dusty dried roses, incense, dried orange peels and wild strawberries makes the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Red Mountain impossible to ignore. This wine is deeply textural, nearly creamy in feel, with a core of ripe red and black fruits elevated by hints of citrus and spice. It leaves a coating of sweet tannins offset by nuances of black tea and dark chocolate as the 2022 finishes with fantastic length. The team at Matthews is on to something here. I can’t wait to explore future vintages.
