2019Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

Sold Out

The 2019 Matthews Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon comes from several small vineyard parcels exclusively within the Red Mountain AVA. Hand-harvested in the fall, the fruit was hand-sorted and fermented using a combination of concrete (80%) and stainless-steel (20%). The free-run juice was aged in French oak (90% new) for 23 months. Only 10 barrels were ultimately selected to be blended, and finally bottled in Oct 2021.

Tasting Notes

The 2019 Matthews Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon shows an intense deep garnet color with flavors and aromas of mountain blackberry, cherry cordial, anise and an earthy minerality. Layered in are pink peppercorn, fresh flowers, and crushed rock. Rounded, dusty tannins are complimented by bright acidity, lending incredible balance to the wine’s almost molasses-like concentration. Blackberry cobbler and flinty minerality persist on the finish.
