Our Inspiration Has Returned: A Love Letter to the Columbia Valley

Our Inspiration Has Returned: A Love Letter to the Columbia Valley

TL;DR: We’re stepping away from the phrase “Bordeaux-inspired” across our brands. We’ve always been, and will continue to be, inspired by the Columbia Valley. Thank you for joining us on this journey into the heart of this dynamic region.

No Longer “Bordeaux-Inspired”

For years, Matthews has leaned on the phrase “Bordeaux-inspired.” It was a quick, convenient way to describe our wines—two simple words that felt familiar and accessible. In hindsight, though, it was a shortcut that didn’t do justice to who we are or where we’re from.

In truth, the label was unknowingly disingenuous. It placed us in a framework that doesn’t fully capture our heart and soul. It’s time to move forward.

From now on, we are retiring the phrase “Bordeaux-inspired.” It no longer represents us.

What Truly Inspires Us?

The Columbia Valley.

This remarkable, dynamic, and unique region inspires everything we do. It’s home to some of the most exceptional sub-AVAs and single vineyards imaginable. Every day we spend in these vineyards deepens our appreciation and commitment to this land.

The Columbia Valley is a marvel.

It gives more than it takes.

It’s our home.

We are driven by a desire to elevate this region—to craft wines that represent the very best of its potential. Wines we’re proud to share with our family, friends, and the world.

A Foundation of Gratitude

Of course, our journey wouldn’t be possible without Bordeaux. We owe a debt of gratitude to this iconic region for its blending blueprints: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Muscat de la.

Equally, we’re inspired by California’s entrepreneurial spirit—proving these varietals can thrive and shine on U.S. soil.

And we wouldn’t be here without the Columbia Valley’s pioneers. Since the late 1960s, their vision and hard work have shaped this region into the dynamic wine landscape it is today. We stand on their shoulders and remain deeply grateful for their contributions.

A New Chapter: Rooted in the Columbia Valley

Matthews is doubling down on our commitment to the Columbia Valley. This means reinvesting in our region and ourselves, pushing harder than ever to unlock the full potential of every vine, every cluster, and every grape.

The Columbia Valley is not just another wine region.

It’s more than just a valley.

It’s a place unlike any other, and we are honored to call it home.

Here’s to the next chapter, inspired by the Columbia Valley.
