Welcome to a brand new wine experience in Woodinville.
We recently wrapped up a complete refresh of our tasting room, which is located neatly between the Schoolhouse Wine District and the Warehouse Wine District in Woodinville, WA. Although Matthews Winery started in the early 1990s, our winery building and tasting room wasn’t built until the early 2000s. By 2015, it clearly was showing its vintage. So in early 2016, we set out to change that.
Several interior walls have been removed to expand and open up the space, making room for a long, custom-made tasting bar. The interior, which had been reminiscent of a dark barrel cave, has been opened up and brightened with a fresh coat of paint, new lighting and new windows and doors that brought in much-needed natural light. Custom-made furniture has replaced dated wine-barrel table tops and stools. Outdoor seating has been expanded, and propane patio heaters provide a warm atmosphere for guests, rain or shine.
Locally sourced food is now available for our tasting room guests to enjoy: cheese and butter from Cherry Valley Dairy, and bread from The Commons. In the near (near) future, we will be adding artisan meats, charcuterie, olives, and nuts as well. And, for your afternoon enjoyment, we are providing picnic baskets, blankets and space to spread out to make a wine picnic in Woodinville easy for you to enjoy.
Not all the changes are purely cosmetic. We've upgraded our building's electrical and sound systems, improved ADA access and added improvements to help with the safety and security needs of our guests. We've taken a fresh approach to what wine tasting in Woodinville could be, for those who make the journey out here. Once through the front door, we hope our visitors feel as if they are transported to a French farm house with warm natural light glowing on bright, white-washed walls. The Matthews heritage is deeply rooted in Bordeaux-inspired wines, made proudly from many of the finest vineyards in Washington. Our space now reflects the commitment to our brand heritage.
But the new things taking root at Matthews aren't just happening inside our building...
Creekside Farm, an organic farm we planted adjacent to our tasting room, is in its second year under the direction of Alex Meizlish, a noted Woodinville farmer. Creekside Farm, which started in 2015, is the first commercial farm associated with a winery property in Woodinville. The name Creekside is inspired by our small, picturesque creek running along the edge of the farm area. This year, our farm will offer a compelling Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) subscription program that is unique to Woodinville Wine Country. It also will continue to provide produce to a growing roster of renowned Seattle-area restaurants and will be the centerpiece of several unique farm-to-table dinners for Matthews Wine Club members. Last year, we quietly supplied some of our produce to several of our favorite Seattle area restaurants, including Sitka & Spruce, Damn The Weather, Cafe Barjot, Salare and The Herbfarm. This year, our produce will additionally be served at The Barking Frog, and (soon-to-be-opened) L’Oursin.
But it’s our CSA program that is truly one-of-a-kind in Washington Wine Country. Starting in late-June and running for 20 weeks through early November, Creekside Farm’s CSA subscribers will receive a custom box of fresh produce and flowers from Creekside Farm; custom breads from The Commons, a nearby bakery; custom cheese and dairy products from Cherry Valley Dairy in Duvall; locally grown eggs and honey; and hand-selected wines from the current and library vintages of Matthews’ wines. There are only 15 spots for these unique farm share boxes. More information on our Creekside Farm Share, as well as information on how to secure one of the spots, is located at MatthewsWinery.com/FarmShare.
We're excited about hosting several farm-to-table dinners this summer and fall, where 40 guests will be able to see directly where much of their seasonal meal was grown on Creekside Farm. Look for more information regarding these dinners, and the chefs involved, sometime over the next 2-3 weeks. Until then, come visit our new space in Woodinville! We'd love to show you around, and share a glass of wine with you.
